Srinagar, Mar 21 (UNI) About 2500 vehicles, including passenger vehicles were stranded as the Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country for the second day today following the closure of 300-km-long Srinagar- Jammu national, highway.

However, all the incoming and outgoing flights operated normally.

The highway, only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was closed for vehicular traffic yesterday due to landslides and shooting of stones, official sources said.

About 2500 vehicles, including trucks loaded with essential commodities were stranded on both sides of the highway.

Sources said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway has started clearing the landslides, triggered by heavy rains between Ramban and Ramsu.

Efforts were on to clear the stranded passenger vehicles on either side of the highway, they said.

However, no heavy vehicle would be allowed till the road was cleared of all landslides, sources added.
