Increase in crime related incidents in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 21 (UNI) A comparative study of the 2004 and 2005 crime reports by Manipur police indicate an alarming increase in crime rate.

The report indicated an increase in crime related to murder, kidnapping, molestation and rape.

There was a decline in the number of extremists killed, police said.

In 2004 about 132 extremists were killed by security personnel while only 55 were killed were killed in 2005.

There was a decline in injury caused to civilians in firing by security personnel.

Large cache of arms and ammunition and money were also seized from the militants during the last two years, the report stated.
