IDPA awards to be given in Mumbai on Mar 25

Mumbai, Mar 21 (UNI) The Indian Documentary Producer Association's (IDPA) Awards for Excellence for the year 2005 will be presented here March 25 by peers in recognition of excellence and commitment in documentary films.

Founded in 1956, IDPA is India's largest association of producers of documentaries, animation films, advertisement films and TV programmes. Each year IDPA recognises and rewards the talented Indian short film-makers with these awards. The awards attract entries from both young and experienced film makers across India.

This year IDPA chose to include student documentaries, short fiction and animation films in recognition of ther growing participation independently and in coll a boration with their educational institutes.

Films from thirteen categories which include documentries, commercials, public service films, animation, and technical awards for cinematography, editing, script writing and sound design were judged by juries composed of eminent professionals from respective disciplines.

IDPA also gives away the Ezra Mir Award for Lifetime Achievement, which this year is being conferred on cinematographer and director K K Mahajan for excellence and contributions to the feiled.

Over the last years, IDPA has conducted workshops for film makers, contributed to discussions with the government on policy matters in films and worked closely with the Mumbai International Film Festival.
