Former UNI editor B M Ramakrishna dies

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) Mr B M Ramakrishna, a former Editor of the United News of India (UNI), died here today following a heart attack.

He was 76.

Mr Ramakrishna, popularly known as BMR, is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. The younger son, Rakesh Rao, is a sports correspondent with The Hindu.

Mr Ramakrishna was associated with UNI right from the day of its inception in 1961. Before joining UNI, he was with the Press Trust of India (PTI) from 1948 to 1960. During his long association with UNI, he was Bureau Chief at Bombay, Patna, Nagpur, Pune, Bhopal and Colombo. He also served at the news agency's headquarters in Delhi from where he retired as an Editor in 1989.

The cremation will take place at 1700 hrs today at Lodhi Road crematorium.
