England's Macey wins decathlon gold
MELBOURNE, Mar 21 (Reuters) England's Dean Macey held off Maurice Smith of Jamaica to win the decathlon gold medal at the Commonwealth Games today.
The 28-year-old Macey collected the first major title of an injury-plagued career with a total of 8,143 points, 69 ahead of Smith who pushed him all the way.
Australian Jason Dudley took the bronze medal, 73 points behind second-placed Smith.
Macey finished fourth in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.
