Dobriskey snatches 1500m with late run

MELBOURNE, Mar 21 (Reuters) Englishwoman Lisa Dobriskey produced a late surge to win her first big title in the Commonwealth Games 1500 metres today.

Dobriskey, 22, grabbed the lead with a desperate late run 50 metres from the finish line after team mate Helen Clitheroe had led for most of the race.

Competing in the Commonwealth Games for the first time, Dobriskey crossed the finish line in four minutes 6.21 seconds.

Australian Sarah Jamieson also made a late run, jostling her way up the inside to grab the silver medal in 4:06.64.

Welshwoman Hayley Tullett, who had qualified fastest for the final, left her charge too late and had to settle for the bronze in 4:06.76.

Clitheroe, the bronze medallist in Manchester four years ago, finished out of the medals.
