Cycling-Aussie O'Neill romps to time-trial victory
MELBOURNE, Mar 21 (Reuters) Australia's Nathan O'Neill pulled off a comprehensive victory to win gold in the men's 50km time-trial at the Commonwealth Games today.
O'Neill, the Manchester 2002 bronze medallist, set the pace at every checkpoint on the St Kilda course and completed victory in 48 minutes 37.29 seconds with team mate Ben Day claiming the silver in 49:01.67.
The bronze went to New Zealand's Gordon McCauley with 49:50.70.
The win completed an Australian double in the day's time-trial events after Oenone Wood led a clean sweep of the medals by the host nation in the women's event.
