Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Mar 21: An emergency meeting of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau was under way here this afternoon to deal with the leadership crisis in the Kerala unit of the party, ahead of the assembly polls in the state.

The magnitude of the crisis is such that this is the fourth meeting of the Polit Bureau in the last ten days.

As many as 31 Polit Bureau members are attending the meeting.

No member from West Bengal could make it to the meeting due to the ill-health of state CPI(M) Secretary Anil Biswas.

Mr V S Achutanandan and Mr Pinarayi Vijayan, both Polit Bureau members from Kerala, are also attending the meeting.

The crisis in the state erupted when Mr Achutanandan was not included in the list of party candidates for the assembly polls.

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, veteran leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet and Mr Sitaram Yechuri are among those present at the meeting.
