Chennai, Mar 21 (UNI) Functioning of about ten courts in the Chennai Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate Court premises remained unaffected even as a group of advocates boycotted courts demanding action against a policeman for allegedly assaulting and abusing an advocate.

The boycott call was given by the lawyers, owing allegiance to senior advocate Michael Raj, who was allegedly assaulted and abused by a cop at Kilpuak area in the city when the latter questioned him for violating traffic rules on March 16.

The advocate also filed a complaint with the police demanding action against him.

The same group of advocates had staged a dharna on March 17 demanding action against the policeman. Since no action was initiated, about 25 advocates supporting Mr Raj boycotted the courts.

The supporters of Mr Raj, also boycotted courts in Ambattur to press their demand.

Meanwhile, advocates at the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) also boycotted courts demanding action against CAT Vice-Chairman Shanmugham for insulting the advocates.

They alleged that Mr Shanmugham had been abusing and insulting advocates, and was also criticisng the judgements of High Court and Supreme Court.
