Advani denied field for rally in Asom

Written by: Staff

Guwahati, Mar 21: The BJP today ( Mar 21, 2006) vented its ire as the civil administration of Asom did not permit BJP leader L K Advani to hold a public rally here.

The rally was later shifted to a public hall but eventually got cancelled as a mark of respect to the death of AGP leader Bhrigu Kumar Phukan.

'' This is a matter the Election commission should take into their own hand. There should be a level playing field for all the political parties, '' said Mr Advani, who eventually addressed a news conference in place of public rally.

Mr Advani and the BJP were livid over the denial. The main public places of the city had already been occupied and the BJP sought to hold the rally at Pandu but even that was denied at the last moment.

Later speaking to newsman, Mr Advani said continuous infiltration, at the behest of the Congress government at Centre and state had created internal security problem.

'' This government is lacking in two points. They are security and probity and in both they are falling apart. It is matter of time before a Bangladeshi occupy high position through democratic means, '' he said.

Mr Advani also accused of bringing the IMDT back to Asom through backdoor after being scrapped by the Supreme Court. '' The Apex Court scaped the law and found it discrimantory and yet the government brought it back, '' he stated.
