UP Guv approves Bill

Lucknow, Mar 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar tonight approved the UP Legislature Prevention of Disqualification Amendment Bill, thus exempting 79 chairpersons' post of councils, boards and corporations in the state from being post of profit.

After a thorough consideration, the Governor approved the bill tonight, sources said here.

The Bill was passed by the UP legislature last week and was pending with the Raj Bhawan for approval.

On March 17, cinestar Jaya Bachchan was disqualified from the Rajya Sabha for holding the post of UP Film Development Council chairperson, regarded as an office of profit.

With the Governor's approval, the disqualification process against Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh and UP assembly member, also state urban development minister, Mohd Azam Khan could be dropped by the Election Commission.

The amendment was made in the 1972 Act by changing the daily allowances of the person holding the post.

While, Amar Singh is the UP Development Council chairperson, Azam Khan is UP Jal Nigam chairman.
