Three die after falling into river from bridge

Itanagar, Mar 20 (UNI) Three persons, including a child, died when they fell off a hanging bridge over the Siang river at Yingkiong in Arunachal's Upper Siang district yesterday.

According to reports received here today, the trio was trying to cross the Gandhi Bridge over the river at a point, halfway between Yingkiong and Tuting, when a strong gust of wind felled them into the river.

The deceased were identified as Ranjit Burman (32), Mrs Jayanti Bhuyan (25) and her daughter Sujita Bhuyan (7).

Though the district police were engaged in search operation, the bodies were yet to be recovered, police informed, adding the strong current in the river had made the rescue operation difficult.

Meanwhile, the All Adi Students Union has expressed shock over the accident and urged the state government to immediately improve the dilapidated condition of the bridge, which also claimed a few lives last year.
