Six members unanimously elected from AP
Hyderabad, Mar 20 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao, INTUC national president G Sanjeeva Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President, Dr Keshava Rao were among the six candidates elected unopposed from Andhra Pradesh in the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha today.
With the end of the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations to fill the six vacant seats from Andhra Pradesh, State Legislature Secretary and Returning Officer K Tuljanand Singh declared four Congress candidates and one each from CPI and TDP, elected unopposed.
Only six candidates had filed nomination papers which had a tinge of drama amidst charges of a possible independent candidate poaching.
The IT and the city police arrested two persons and seized Rs 25 lakh from a city hotel suite on March 15, hours before the last date of filing of nominations for the biennial election from the state.
In pursuance of the provisions in Sub-Section (2) of Section 53 of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951, read with sub-rule(1) of the rule 11 of the conduct of election rules, 1961, the Returning Officer declared Azeez Pasha (CPI), Dr K Keshava Rao (Congress), Dasari Narayana Rao (Congress), M V Mysoora Reddy (TDP), Raashid Alvi (Congress) and G Sanjeeva Reddy (Congress) elected.
TDP leader Mysoora Reddy was the first to receive the certificate from Mr Singh. Mr Reddy came along with senior TDP leaders and MLAs E Dayakar Rao and Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy.
Accompanied by CPI state secretary Dr Narayana, Mr Azeez received the certificate.
APCC President Dr Keshava Rao came along with state Marketing Minister B Satyanarayana and INTUC leader G Sanjeeva Reddy to receive the certificate.
UP Congress leader Raashid Alvi and Union Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao are yet to receive their certificates.
