Shahu Maharaj's birth anniversary to be observed on June 26

Mumbai, Mar 20 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said that the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj will now be observed on June 26 every year instead of July 26.

Announcing this in the Legislative Assembly during his reply to the debate on the motion thanking the Governor S M Krishna to the joint sitting of both the Houses, Mr Deshmukh said that recommendations in this regard by historians from Kolhapur have been accepted.

Till now, the birth date of Shahu Maharaj had been accepted as July 26, 1874, he said.
