SC dismisses petition against Qureshi

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Supreme court today dismissed a writ petition seeking criminal prosecution against UP Minister Haji Yaqoob Qureshi for announcing a reward of Rs 51 crore to anyone who beheads the Danish cartoonist publishing a caricature of Prophet Mohammed.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Mr Justice C K Thakker and Mr Justice A R Lakshmanan while dismissing the petition told petitioner V K Tiwari to file a criminal complaint against the Minister in the concerned district court.

The court also observed that it could not entertain petitions against controversial statements made by an individual.
