Saarpanchs to get honorarium of 1,000 per month in J

Jammu, Mar 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has proposed Rs 1,000 per month as honorarium for the three thousand odd sarpanchs in the state.

Minister of State for Rural Development Babu Singh today informed the legislative council that a proposal for payment of Rs 1,000 per month as honorarium to Sarpanchs and fee of Rs 100 per sitting limited to two sittings in a month to a Panch was being submitted to the cabinet for orders.

Replying to a question by Ashok Kumar Sharma, the Minister said, section 10 of the Panchayati Raj Act entitled monthly honorarium to sarpanchs and sitting to panchs.

Replying to supplementaries, the Minister said delimitation of panchayats was going on and it was expected that the number of panchayats in the state would increase from the existing 2,700 to 3,000.
