Rajni fans to back AIADMK

Chennai, Mar 20 (UNI) Despite superstar Rajnikanth's decision not to back any political front in the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, a group of his fans today called on Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and pledged their support to her party.

The fans, led by Thanjavur District Rajnikanth Fan Club Secretary Humayun and Pondicherry State Secretary 'Rajni' Sankar, met Ms Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden home and volunteered to campaign for the AIADMK-led Democratic People's Alliance, an AIADMK release said.

Later, in a joint statement, the Presidents of Rajnikanth Fan Clubs pledged to work for the victory of the AIADMK in the elections so that the 'golden rule' of Ms Jayalalithaa would continue.

In the prevailing dynastic politics, Ms Jayalalithaa was striving to raise the standard of living of poor and middle class, they said.

Though Rajni fans had sweated it out for the victory of various political parties in past elections, they had not enjoyed any benefit from them so far. Only in the AIADMK, grassroot cadre would be elevated to Minister's or MLA's post, they observed.

It may be recalled that Rajnikanth Fans Associations President Satyanarayana recently sent a circular to all fan clubs, stating that Rajnikanth, who was busy filming for his new Tamil film 'Shivaji', would not talk about politics during this election.

'The fans are free to vote for any party they like but they should not use Rajnikanth's name or fanclub flag for electioneering,' Mr Satyanarayafna said.
