Poultry movement from Mah gives Surat officials tough time
Surat, Mar 20 (UNI) Despite a strict order by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities, the movement of poultry from Maharashtra is giving a tough time to the officials here.
On March 17, Salabatpura police caught a tempo containing poultry and sent it back to Maharashtra. The tempo was bringing chickens from a poultry farm in Chandwad village in Maharashtra for a chicken merchant in Surat.
On March 18, a huge load of eggs were caught at Surat railway station by the SMC task force. The egg parcels were loaded in Veergam passenger train coming from Mumbai Central to Surat.
This had the officials wondering how such poultry consignments were entering the city, even when a strict vigil being maintained.
However, when contacted a SMC official said there was confusion about who should take action when a consignment enters the district territory.
''In fact, SMC's order is valid only on the corporation territory. If any consignment enters the district territory it is for the respective authorities to take care,'' the official said.
But according to the district authorities, it is for the SMC to keep an eye on the poultry entering to the corporation territory and they agree that the State government should have informed the railways about the ban.
