Pondy DMK to announce seats on Mar 24

Pondicherry, Mar 20 (UNI) State DMK Convenor and former Chief Minister R V Janakiraman today said the number of seats, constituencies and candidates the party will contest in the DPA during the May 8 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu were likely to be announced on March 24 at Chennai.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Janakiraman said the DPA was a strong alliance and everybody knew the strength of the DMK in Pondicherry. There was delay in finalising the constituencies as the alliance was huge.

Mr Janakiraman demanded an explanation from the Election Department on poll graffiti and said restrictions on putting up posters and banners on private property was tantamount to violation of individual and democratic rights.

He also demanded steps be taken on warfooting for inclusion of names in voters' list. Mobile units should be set up so that photographs could be taken and cards issued on the spot.

The DMK leader also asked the Election Department to take action on parties levelling baseless allegations against their rivals.
