No policy changes on atomic energy : Kakodkar

Jaduguda, Jharkhand, Mar 20 (UNI) Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and Secretary of Department Atomic Energy (DAE) Dr Anil Kakodkar today said the DAE will not change the present policy unless the Atomic Energy Act of the government was amended.

Talking to reporters after the inaugruation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting here, Dr Kakodkar said the policy for opening up the uranium resources would remain unaltered.

'' We are not contempleting to change policy. We have to work in the ambit of the present structure, '' Dr Kakodkar said when asked whether the DAE would open up the uranium resources.

He said the government was the policy maker and the ball was in the court of the government. '' All things could be done within the framework of the present act, '' he emphasised.

Dr Kakodkar, however, opined that the outsourcing of uranium resources would facilitate to introduce the latest technology from abroad.
