Malik wins Pakistan's first gold

MELBOURNE, Mar 20 (Reuters) Shuja-ud-Din Malik of Pakistan won the men's 85kg weightlifting gold and Canada's Elizabeth Lassen took the women's 69kg at the Commonwealth Games today.

Malik claimed Pakistan's first gold medal of the Games with a total of 343kg, 12 more than Brice Batchaya of Cameroon who took the silver.

Lassen lifted 229kg to beat India's Monika Devi by seven kilograms.
