Malaysia win first gold in bowls
MELBOURNE, Mar 20 (Reuters) Malaysia won their first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games today with victory in the women's bowls triples.
The Malaysian trio of Azmi Nor Iryani Binti, Arshad Azlina Binti and Ismail Nor Hashimah Binti came from seven points behind in the final against Australia to tie the opening set 12-12 then win the second 13-4.
''All of Malaysia is here with us,'' Azmi Nor Iryani Binti said. The Australians said they had only themselves to blame for losing.
''Silver is not good enough,'' Ceriann Davies said. ''Other countries can walk away proud with silver but I'm not prepared to do that. I've got to come back and win gold.'' Australia made amends in the men's triple final when Bill Cornehls, Wayne Turley and Mark Casey combined in an 8-6 10-2 win over Northern Ireland.
''We played against some of the best players in the world, so it's just an unbelievable performance and something that will take a long time to soak up,'' Casey said.
