Malaysia beat England to win mixed gold

MELBOURNE, Mar 20 (Reuters) Malaysia beat England 3-1 in a highly-charged match to win the gold medal in the mixed team badminton competition at the Commonwealth Games today.

Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms won the mixed doubles 21-15 21-12 to put England ahead before world number two Lee Chong Wei levelled the match with a 21-8 21-8 victory over Aamir Ghaffar in the men's singles.

Wong Mew Choo of Malaysia needed 69 minutes to beat England's Tracey Hallam 27-25 20-22 21-18 in the women's singles and the Malaysians took the men's doubles 21-14-21-14 to clinch victory.

India beat New Zealand 3-1 to claim bronze.
