K'taka to implement project to ease B'lore traffic

Bangalore, Mar 20: Karnataka will implement an ambitious Rs 350 crore project to overcome traffic snarls in this high tech city using modern technologies and strategies.

Setting aside Rs 44 crore the for the project in the state budget for 2006-07 presented in the Assembly today, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said the project would be completed by 2010-11.

Called the 'B-TRAC 2010,' the project would use an intelligent transportation system, modernise traffic police and automate enforcement.

Taking into account the increasing naxalite activities in the State, Mr Yediyurappa also provided Rs five crore to the police department to curb naxalite activities. Besides an additional Rs 3.2 crore had been provided to the city police to purchase 49 patrol vehicles hoysala to check increasing incidents of crime.
