Joanna Fargus wins gold for Australia

MELBOURNE, Mar 20 (Reuters) Australia's Joanna Fargus won the women's 200 metres backstroke at the Commonwealth Games today, four years after she struck gold for England.

Fargus stormed over the last 100m having been fourth at the halfway mark to win the gold in a time of two minutes 10.36 seconds.

England's Melanie Marshall finished second in 2:10.87 while New Zealand's Hannah McLean was third in 2:12.47.

Fargus was born in Hong Kong but raised in Australia. She won a relay gold medal for England at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester before switching her allegiances to Australia. Her older brother Andrew has competed for Scotland in triathlon.
