HRLN demands Traffic courts in Arunachal
Itanagar, Mar 20 (UNI) The Arunachal chapter of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) has urged the state government to set up traffic courts in the state for quick disposal of traffic violation cases and ensuring strict enforcement of traffic rules and Motor Vehicle Act.
In a representation to the Commissioner (Home), HRLN coordinator Sunil Mow pointed out that the rise in road accidents in the state, particularly in Itanagar was due to poor traffic rules and absence of traffic courts.
Stating that traffic was chaotic, the HRLN pointed out that there was no zebra crossings, subways, signboards displaying traffic rules, pedestrian paths and lack of public awareness for abiding traffic rules.
Referring to insufficient traffic police personnel in the state, Mr Mow said the traffic police consists of 28 constables, six sub-inspectors and one inspector in the entire state, out of which 22 constables and one sub-inspector were in Papum Pare district.
''The road accidents could be minimised only if there is strict checking and violators punished,'' he advocated.
