Jammu, Mar 20 (UNI) After the resignation of Mr Mufti Mohammed Syeed from the Chief Minister post in November last year, the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir has been functioning without a leader from the ruling side.
The fact was brought to notice today by opposition National Conference member Dr Mehboob Baig during the budget session of the State Assembly.
Briefing the House on the matter, Dr Baig cited the provisions of Section 2(14) of conduct of proceedings of the House and said there should have been a leader of the House from the treasury benches. The post should have been filled by the ruling Congress-People Democratic Party combine after the former Chief Minister completed his term.
He further said Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad could not be considered the leader as he was not the member of the House.
Speaker Tara Chand tried to pacify the members, saying Mr Mangat Ram Sharma was the leader of the House but the government had not informed the chair about it.
However, the Chief Miniter intervened and informed the House that the government will inform the chair about the Leader of House in a couple of days.
