DIC(K) proves its support base at short notice
Kochi, Mar 20 (UNI) While splits and formation of minuscule political parties are common in Kerala, the Democratic Indira Congress(DIC-K), led by former Congress veteran K Karunakaran, is perhaps the only party which still boasts of its grassroot support, if the workers' participation in today's party meeting is any indication.
Party workers in hordes assembled at the venue at Marine Drive, defying Kerala's sweltering summer heat. Several were found scrambling for drinking water pouches supplied by volunteers.
Minimal media publicity was given to the session in the past few days. There were hardly any posters or banners or hoardings for the DIC(K) meeting in Kochi. Not even a press conference was called in the city to announce the holding of the convention, as is normally done by all political parties.
Yet, depending only on handbills and pamphlets, the DIC(K) managed to pull in a sizeable crowd for the party state delegates session.
Addressing the fairly attended session, Mr Karunakaran asserted that the DIC(K) would continue to be a decisive force in the state and all political parties were aware of this fact. That was why so much of discussion was taking place on the DIC(K) even after it broke away from the Congress and the ruling United Democratic Front(UDF), he added.
Mr Karunakaran and party state President K Muraleedharan said the large participation at the session, called at a short notice, was proof of the party's inherent strength and nobody would be able to dismiss the DIC(K) in Kerala, they added.
