Demonstrations in front of French consulate in Pondy

Pondicherry, Mar 20 (UNI) Tension prevailed for some time as a group of people staged demonstrations in front of the French Consulate here today, in protest against the alleged failure of the consulate staff to provide applications for French citizenship.

Applications are being issued to renew the French citizenships and to apply afresh. Accordingly, a large number of people gathered in front of the consulate since early this morning. However, the consulate staffs issued forms to only ten people and closed the counter, provoking the demonstration, according to protestors.

The consulate staff however, said no applications were issued today.

Police intervened and pacified the protestors following which the staff displayed a board that no applications would be issued today.

Later ,they dispersed.
