Dell to double its capabilities in India

Bangalore, Mar 20 (UNI) The Dell Inc, a global provider of products and services for its customers to build their information technology and internet infrastructures, today announced its decision to double its capabilities in India.

Addressing newspersons here today, Company Chairman Michel S Dell said the company's growth rate in India was about 40 per cent and to augment its operations further, it was in touch with various state governments seeking logistic and other related support. The company also had plans to start a manufacturing unit and expand product development and customer contact centers in the country.

He said Dell was keen on establishing hardware and software engineering bases basically to support its own IT requirement and internal organisations.

Mr Dell said that in the last three quarters, the company's revenue grew from 35 billion USD to 56 billion USD and exuded confidence that it would cross the targetted milestone of over 80 billion USD by this year.

He said the company was also interested in setting up semiconductor fabrication base in India and build its skills to take up challenging engineering assignments.

Mr Dell informed that the lion's share of the company's revenue came from its institutional customers and other organisations, while the consumers market accounted for just about 15 per cent. It's the market leadership was the result of its persistent focus on delivering the best possible customer experience, he added.

He also announced that the company planned to double the size of its India-based product development team during the next two years based on its success in supporting the company's enterprise system, a strategic product area.

Mr Dell said the company was setting up its fourth customer contact centre at Gurgaon and it was expected to increase its staff strength by creating about 700 to 1,000 positions.

He said that since establishing its first customer contact centre in India at Bangalore, the company's teams in India had pioneered in processes and practices for technical support, call planning and staffing and provide frontline support to Dell customers around the world regardless of product time or location.

India was now the fourth largest market in Asia Pacific, next to Japan, China and South Korea, he added.
