CUSAT suspends three engineering students in computer theft case
Kochi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) today suspended three of its engineering students, arrested by the police for theft of computer monitors from the university campus, and issued show cause notices to them why they should not be dismissed.
Those suspended were sixth semester computer engineering student Shyam Sam, mechanical engineering students Antony Jose(eighth semester) and Pratheesh Joseph(sixth semester). They were among the four youths arrested by the police yesterday in connection with the theft of 39 LCD monitors worth Rs six lakh last week.
The university syndicate also appointed a sub-committee headed by Pro Vice-Chancellor N D Eenasu to probe into the security and administrative lapses, if any, on the part of the university, Vice-Chancellor P K Abdul Aziz said.
Meanwhile, reports from the university indicated that those involved in the case were brigt students belonging to affluent families. But, their greed to lead a lavish lifestyle had landed them on the wrong side of the law.
