Court extends Nayak's judicial custody
Mumbai, Mar 20 (UNI) Special ACB court today extended till April one, the judicial custody of suspended encounter specialist Daya Nayak and his associate Rajendra Padte in the disproportionate assests case registered against the police officer.
Due to miscommunication between Bhoiwada police lock-up and Arthur Road Jail authorities, Nayak was not brought to the court this afternoon for remand.
After waiting for an hour or so, prosecution moved an application for extention of remand, on which defence advocate Shyam Marwadi objected, saying that a remand application could not be heard in the absence of an accused.
Thereafter, Additional Sessions Judge Mahajan S P Mahajan asked court staff to ask jail authorities to produce Nayak in court for remand. He he was produced at around 1820 hrs when his remand was extended till April one.
