Commonwealth conference of women parliamentarians soon
Imphal, Mar 20 (UNI) The U K Parliament, Commonwealth Parliamentarians Association (CPA), will organise a conference of women parliamentarians of commonwealth countries in England this year.
Dr M Nara from Manipur represented India along with another legislator from Jharkhand at the 55th Westminster Conference held in London from March 6 to 17.
Dr Nara, after returning from the conference, here today said Parliamentarians from 28 countries of commonwealth countries took part in the conference to discuss steps to strengthen democracy and legislative works.
The House of Commons, UK, had about 25 per cent women though there was no reservation for women, Dr Nara said. When he raised the issue of non-representation of women in other commonwealth countries, it was decided to organise the women's conference in the UK, Dr Nara told newspersons at the Manipur Assembly.
The issue of cultural exchange was also raised by Dr M Nara.
The CPA felt due to the large numbers of activities of the commonwealth in a year it was not possible to organise an exclusive cultural event. It, however, announced that cultural activities in the commonwealth games will be increased from next year.
