Cobra gobbles up another cobra in Junagadh zoo

Junagadh, Mar 20 (UNI) In a rare incident of its kind, a seven-foot long cobra devoured its cell-mate, another cobra, in Shakerbaug zoo here.

The killer cobra apparently first attacked its partner on his head, and then slowly swallowed up its six-foot long body, Zoo Superintendent R D Katara said.

''Although we have kept the cobra under observation, it is normal and shows no signs of uneasiness,'' he said.

The zoo has eight glass cells housing different types of snakes.

The incident has left environmentalists aghast. While some say it could be hunger that drove the snake to kill its mate, others feel it could be because of the ongoing mating season.
