Tibetan Parliamentary elections conclude

Dharamshala, Mar 19, (UNI) The fourteenth parliamentary elections to the Tibetan parliament-in-exile-Assembly of Tibetan People's Deputies (ATPD) concluded peacefully here yesterday, sources said today.

The Tibetan parliamentary elections are held on the basis of the provinces in Tibet and about one-third of the voters live in exile in India and other parts of the world.

The sources said the spiritual head of the Tibetan government-in-exile, the Dalai Lama, was contesting from the Utsang province.

The voting was held for 43 seats out of a total of 46 seats of the ATPD for which 89 candidates were in fray.

ђThese election results will be announced within two weeks from now as over 80,000 of our registered voters are in India, Bhutan, Nepal and other countries of the world,Ғ Tibetan Chief Election Commissioner in Exile Tasi N Phuntsok said.

Majority of the candidates who get elected to the ATPD have the blessings of the Dalai Lama.

But several other groups, like the radical, Tsundue, and those owing allegiance to the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), were also supporting the candidates.
