'Tamil Maiyam' to come up with another musical blend

Chennai, Mar 19 (UNI) 'Tamil Maiyam', the makers of ''Thiruvasagam in Symphonic Oratorio'' by Maestro Ilayaraja, is all set to come out with another innovative project, ''Mozart Meets India''.

Giving details of the project to newspersons here yesterday, Rev Jegath Gaspar Raj, founder and Managing Director of 'Tamil Maiyam', said the project aims to gain global reach for Indian classical music and would trascend genre, cross cultures and create an attractive sound track for music lovers around the world.

''The uniqueness of Indian Music is its Raaga based melodic depth.

And the beauty of Western music is its explorative versatility in harmony. Mozarat Meets India will make both blend beautifully, without losing their distinctive character and grammar,'' he said.

Six Raagas: Kaapi, Banturavali, Bilhari, Sankarabaranam, Sindhu Bhairavi and Hamsanandhi will be given elevated majesty through the symphonic versatility. The 60-minute music album will bring together more than 75 instrumentalists and vocalists and it would be an Indian orchestra, Rev Raj said.

''It would not be a fusion, but a blend,'' he said adding the project would be launched with a live performance at the Music Academy here either on June 24 or July 14. ''The day will mark history. A genuinely Indian Symphony Orchestra and music with immense global relevance would have been attempted,'' he added.

Stating that scientific melodic depth is the strength of Carnatic music, Rev Raj said the project aimed at creating a non-filmi market for quality music and present a Raaga in its pure grammar.

The key board samples of the symphony, which was only ten per cent of the final product were sent to about 30 music lovers in London and the response was tremendous. Many said the ''music is visual,'' Rev Raj claimed.
