Karnal, Mar 19 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today stressed the need for providing adequate facilities in Sainik Schools.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for 16 students of Sainik School, Kunjpura near here who have been selected to the National Defence Academy, he said Sainik Schools play a significant role in providing efficient officers to the country's armed forces.

An alumnus of the Sainik School, Kunjpura, Mr Hooda said it was a matter of pride that every 10th soldier in the Indian Army was from Haryana though the state forms only two per cent of the total population of the country.

He said the Sainik Schools were launched in 1961 with only five schools, including the school in Kunjpura, but the number has now gone up to 20 across the country.

The Chief Minister also presented a letter releasing Rs 25 lakh from the MPLAD fund to the Sainik School for installing solar water heaters for students.
