Security force and police on their toes in Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 19 (UNI) Concerned over the yesterday's car bomb blast on high security Airport road and intelligence inputs of more such attack by militants, the security forces are on their toes today, searching vehicles and frisking pedestrains.
However, Inspector General of Police (IGP) K Rajinder Kumar said the searchs and frisking of vehicles at entry points, crossing and other public places in the cities and towns of the valley was being done for the security of the general public.
Official sources said there are intelligence reports that militants will try target the vehicles of security forces and politicians in the valley, particuarly in the city.
Security forces and police personnel are also looking for two maruti cars stolen from two different areas of the city last week allegedly used in yesterday's blast.
The Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the blast and warned more such attacks in future.
Security forces and police personnel could be seen checking the vehicles, particularly scooters and maruti cars at different places in the city.
Passengers and pedestrains were being frisked by security personnel to thwart any attempt to smuggle in arms and ammunition into the city from outskirts.
Mr Kumar, who chaired a high level meeting after the blast yesterday, directed the police personnel to show utmost courtesy politeness and sense of belonging, while carrying on frisking.
He said in a democratic setup, it was the primary duty of police to help people.
The police chief stressed upon his department to improve its people friendly image and adopt a realistic approach and effective mechanism at all levels for redressing public grievance.
Though policing in Kashmir is a challenging job, but keeping the excellent track record of the state police on various front all ranks of will perform well in the given situation, he said.
