MELBOURNE, Mar 19 (Reuters) Scotland's David Carry won his second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with victory in the men's 400 metres individual medley today.

The 24-year-old stormed home over the final 100m to win in a time of four minutes 15.98 seconds and add the medley gold to the 400m freestyle gold he won on the first night of competition.

Another Scot, Euan Dale, finished second in 4:17.15 and Australia's Travis Nederpelt was third in 4:17.24.

Carry was in fourth place after the breaststroke leg with 100m to go but was too strong over the concluding freestyle leg. He hit the front at the 350m mark and surged away on the last lap to win by a body length.

His victory gave Scotland their fourth gold medal in swimming in Melbourne, double their best effort at a Commonwealth Games.

Gregor Tait won the men's 200m backstroke final and Caitlin McClatchey upset Australia's Libby Lenton to win the 200m freestyle.
