Proposed SEZs would change appearance of Maharashtra: CM

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 19 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the setting up of the proposed Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state announced by the Centre would change its appearance as well as that of the backward Marathwada region as industrial activity be renewed with vigour.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a foundation laying ceremony of the proposed new building of the District Court here, Mr Deshmukh said with this announcement, a long-pending demand of the state and the Marathwada region has been finally fulfilled.

He said the proposed SEZs have been cleared by the Centre, when the state government was making sincere efforts towards the all-round development of the state. Therefore, the decision by the Centre, would be a step in the right direction.

While the Chief Minister said he had limitations in resolving the long-pending issues due to the coalition government, he made it clear that the government had always accorded priority to the developmental works of the backward regions.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, Mr Deshmukh urged the district courts to initiate steps to start court proceedings of the district court in Marathi.

He said the government had taken a decision on the issue in the past, in order to bring awareness among the common and to make the court work understandable for him.

Mr Deshmukh said a committee had already been set up by the government under the chairmanship of former Justice Chandrasekhar Dharmadhikari to find ways for an easy translation of English words in Marathi.

The Chief Minister said the district court and its present building in Aurangabad had some historical background, where the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had addressed the lawyers.

The government has made a provision of Rs 15 crore for the renovation of the old builiding and construction of a new multi-storied building.

Bombay High Court Chief Justice Kshitij Vyas, in his speech, informed about the various initiatives undertaken by the courts in order to speed up the judiciary process.
