Police raises high alert in North 24 Parganas
Barrackpore, Mar 19 (UNI) Police sounded high alert today in Bijpur police station area in North 24 Parganas after a sizeable quantity of bombs and its ingredients were seized from a mango grove at Duttapara yesterday.
A large police force had been deployed to keep strict vigil over different central government offices, including railway workshop in Kanchapara, municipaity offices and temples in Halisahar.
At least eight pieces of socket bombs, each weighing seven to 10 kgs, and 18 smaller bombs along with 45 kgs of gunpowder and materials for making bombs were seized.
Some policemen, who visited Duttapara last night, said here today that they suspected that Maoists were involved in this incident.
Bomb disposal squad had diffused a large number of bombs, including eight socket bombs weighing about 7-10 kgs each.
However, Additional Superintendentof police Manoj Verma, who deployed additional forces, refused to comment on the seizure of bombs and explosives.
Police continued patrolling in Halisahar and Kanchrapara area creating panic among the local people, sources said.
