Nitish govt yet to make an impact in Bihar: Paswan

Jammu, Mar 19 (UNI) Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ram Vilas Paswan today termed the formation of Nitish Kumar government in Bihar as a ''reaction'' to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and said it is yet to meet the aspirations and expectations of the people of the state.

Addressing a press conference here, the minister said the law and order situation in the state, is still worse and the incidents of extortions, abductions, murders and snatchings are as much prevalent as in the earlier rule.

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) President said Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) government came into power only because the people were fed up with Laloo's 'jungle raj'. Had the RJD agreed upon the issue of 'Muslim' chief minister in the state, there would not have any need of dissolution of the assembly and re-election, he said.

However, the minister said it is too early to judge the state government as it came into power just six months ago. ''It certainly needs time to correct the things and bring the state and its economy to the right track, which was in a shambles in the previous rule,'' Mr Paswan said .

He said the government's 'honeymoon' period' is going to be over adding that indications and impact of the steps taken by it must now start reflecting results.

Mr Paswan did not comment on the Left Front's attitude within and outside Parliament towards the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre but said there must be checks on the government.

The LJP leader said he was trying to create a 'front' consisting of minority communities, the poor and backward classes to enable them contribute in the development of the nation.

Mr Paswan lamented that even after 58 years of independence, the problems of the dalits have not been properly addressed and they are still deprived of basic amenities and fundamental rights.
