Leaders welcome JNNURM
Vijayawada, Mar 19 (UNI) Several political leaders except CPI(M) today welcomed the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), introduced by the UPA Government and said they would utilise the funds to improve the city in the long run.
The senior communist leader T Venkateswara Rao said JNNURM would be developed in 63 cities to cover 12 crore people in the country.
Congress floor leader S Narsara Raju listed out the welfare measures mentioned in the mission and added that more than 30 per cent of the city's polulation was living in slum areas, without basic facilities.
TDP floor leader Ramana Rao said his party would take steps to improve the city.
CPI(M) city secretary R Raghu said his party was not opposing the scheme, but only the condtions imposed for sanction of allocation of fund.
