Lack of will power in passing the Women Reservation Bill: Paswan

Jammu Mar 19 (UNI) Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertiliser Ram Vilas Paswan today scathed political parties for hindering the passing of women reservation bill in the parliament.

Mr Paswan, while addressing a press conference here, said even though women constitute almost 50 per cent of population in the contry, they are being denied 33 per cent representation in the Parliament.

Provision of reservation should be made not only in the Parliament but also in Assembly seats, he said.

The Lok Janshakti party president said, according to him, there is lack of will power in passing the 'bill'. He accused the Samajwadi party and Rashtriya Janata Dal of opposing the bill.

He hoped that the congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre will take the lead in passing the bill.

He suggested to increase the total number of seats in the Parliament by one third to carve out the reservation.

Mr Paswan said discrimination of women in the male dominating society should be stopped and they should be given equal opportunities to excel in every sphere.
