Srinagar, Mar 19 (UNI) Kashmir valley is under the grip of severe cold following fresh snowfall on upper reaches while plains had intermittent rains.

However, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was open through for two-way traffic after the landslides, triggered by heavy rains, were cleared by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Official sources said all stranded vehicles on the highway have been allowed to move towards their respective destinations.

Normal vehicular traffic on the highway was resumed this morning from both the sides, they said.

However, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national higway has been closed since November 17 following heavy snowfall.

A report from Baramulla said that one-way traffic was resumed to Keran and Karnah. The roads were closed due to landslides and snowfall.

Meanwhile, the upper reaches in the Kashmir valley had fresh snowfall resulting in considerable drop in the temperature.

The holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir had recorded about eight inches of fresh snowfall while light snowfall was experienced at Pissu top, Mahaguns, Sheshnag and Panjtherni.
