Jayaprada turns singer with maiden production venture

Mumbai, Mar 19 (UNI) The music director-actress combination of Bappi Lahiri and Jayaprada that was part of blockbuster movies like Tohfa, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani, Aaj Ka Arjun, Sharabi, Haqueeqat, Thanedar, Sinhasan and Muddat, is back in a different form.

Actress Jayaprada, a Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh, turned singer when she lent her voice for a foot-tapping number by ace Lahiri and Adnan Sami last Thursday at the Venus Recording Studio here.

She sang the song for her Jayaprada Productions' maiden venture that is set to go on floors later next month.

Talking to reporters after the recording, Jayaprada said, ''Making a film is exciting. And being a successful artiste, I am excited about making a different kind of film.'' She was however, tight lipped about her movie and refused to divulge any details about it. When prodded further, she said, ''I shall announce the title of the film and other details on April 3, my birthday.'' Priyanshu Chaterjee, Aarti Chhabria, Sandhya Mrudul and Jayaprada play the lead roles in the film.

Jayaprada said, ''I have been passionate about art right from my childhood days. Dancing and singing has been an integral part of my life. When Bappi da said that my voice would suit the song, I was charged up,'' ''Challenges always excite me,'' she confessed and added, ''I am sure the combination of Dada, Adnan and me would turn out to be a good one.'' For Lahiri too, the song was a challenge. ''It is a different kind of film, and definitely not a musical love story. Hence creating songs for the film is a challenge in itself. The songs blend smoothly with the film's narrative and that is the fun of making music for this film.'' ''It is hip-hop music with different arrangement,'' explained Lahiri. ''Jayaji's voice is very melodious and she is a dancer and has a superb sense of rhythm. I suggested that she sing,'' he added.

Adnan who recently rendered his first number for Bappi Lahiri with Alisha Chinai in 'Hot N Sour', felt that this number would be equally exciting. ''This is the first time that Bappi da and I will be singing together. And with Jayaprada ji, the combination is something I am looking forward to,'' he said.

Director Kitu Ghosh with over two decades of experience in the film industry said, ''The songs are a part of the film's screenplay.

I would say the current song is a classic melody from the past combined with the arrangement of the future. It is a great combination.'' Ghosh has a point when he makes an observation about Bappi Lahiri. ''Normal music directors create a style and catch on to it while Bappi da actually mixes styles. That is his speciality.'' Jayaprada who was last seen in Rajkumar Santoshi's film 'Khaki' opposite Amitabh Bachchan, has earlier rendered a number for a Telugu film.

She lamented that she had never been able to pursue singing as she was busy with her other commitments. Now, the versatile actress feels that with this song, her other passion will come to fore. ''I am bringing my dreams alive with this film,'' she said.
