ISKCON to cover 1 mn children under mid-day meal scheme
Mangalore, Mar 19 (UNI) ONGC Chairman Subir Raha will today inaugurate the first phase of the steam-based kitchen of the Akshaya Patra Foundation (APF).
The 'Akshaya Patra', run by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), at present offers mid-day meals to about 3.8 lakh children in eight locations across the country, including Jaipur and Baran in Rajasthan and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, ISKCON Public Relation Head Govinda Das told reporters here yesterday.
APF plans to cover one million under-priviliged children across the country under the mid-day meal scheme by 2010.
He said the replacement of the present conventional gas cooking method by steam boiler system would help feed more children. The first phase of these kitchens was set up here with help of ONGC and MRPL, he added.
