IGNOU launches medical waste management course
New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Distance education pioneer IGNOU has launched a new course in medical waste management for doctors, nurses and para-medics.
The six-month Health Care Waste Management certificate programme was launched by the World Health Organisation's South East Asia chief Dr Samlee Plianbangchang yesterday.
The minimum qualification for the course is a pass in Class XII.
The course is also open to health workers.
The course has been developed to create essential knowledge and skills in disposing of medical waste to help the community protect itself against its adverse impact on people's health.
The students will be taught through a network of programme study centres and partner institutions like medical colleges, hospitals and rural health centres.
According to the United Nations, medical waste is the second most hazardous waste after radio-active waste.
