HC to hear suspended police officer's bail plea tomorrow

Mumbai, Mar 19 (UNI) The bail application of suspended Joint Commissioner of Police Shridhar Vaghal will come up before the Bombay High Court tomorrow.

The officer is an accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

Justice V M Kanade, on March 17, had adjourned the hearing since the arguments on the bail plea remained inconclusive.

Advocate Shekhar Naphade, appearing on behalf of Vaghal, had told the court that his client was falsely implicated in the case and the provisions of the MCOCA Act were wrongly applied on him.

He also submitted that the accused has already been chargesheeted by the CBI and is languishing in jail for a long time. His custody is not required by the investigating agency for further interrogation and, therefore, he should be released on bail, he added.

Vaghal was earlier granted interim bail by special MCOCA Court in Pune for undergoing a medical treatment. He was later taken into custody after his interim bail expired.

Vaghal had allegedly helped Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case, while he was in the custody of the Crime Branch CID, Mumbai.

He has also been charged with for providing five-star facilities to Telgi and run his syndicate.
