Govt servants doing political work: MLA

Pondicherry, Mar 19 (UNI) Alleging several government servants working at the residence of Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition were indulging in political activites, AIADMK State Secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, today urged the Election Department to take proper action on this issue.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan claimed DMK Convenor R V Janakiraman was misusing his political powers to threaten AIADMK leader Om Sakthi Segar in his Nellithoppe constituency.

His son was also attacked yesterday by goons at the instigation of DMK, which, was an act of indecent politics, he alleged and added the people watching all these developments would teach a fitting lesson to the party in the elections.

Mr Anbazhagan also described the model code of conduct for elections as very severe. Under the code, a cadre cannot hoist a party flag in his house thus affecting the rights of an individual.

Some freedom should be allowed, he added.

Meanwhile, the Election Department today cautioned the government employees of stringent action if anyone was found to be indulging in political activites.

Pondicherry Distrct Election Officer Theva Neethi Das, in a release here, said such persons would be arrested and imprisoned.
